TERRAZZO SELECTION

Derived from the Italian word “Terrace” or “Terrazza”, Terrazzo was defined throughout centuries as a form of mosaic flooring made by embedding small pieces of marble in mortar and polishing. This flooring has a long and rich history that dates back over 1500 years and is one of the original recycled products – cre¬ated centuries ago by Venetian workers utilizing the waste chips from slab marble processing. Today terrazzo floor¬ing continues to provide the ultimate in durability and low maintenance, typically lasting the life of the building. This combination has led to a renaissance in the use of terrazzo over the past decade. In particular, designers are increasingly specifying Terrazzo in retail and commercial projects as the material is one of the ultimate choices when evaluating finishes on a life cycle basis.

Typically used as a finish for floors, stairs or walls, Terrazzo was traditionally poured in place but now precast tiles have become more prevalent due to the ease of installation.

At Moruzzi we offer exclusively precast, cement-based tiles available in multiple formats, including custom designs.

Durability

Sustainable construction is at the core of green construc¬tion. Terrazzo floors have an outstanding record of durabil¬ity and performance. The floors will typically last the life of the structure. In many older buildings, the floors can be restored to their original luster at a fraction of the cost of replacing the finish.

Cement-based terrazzo floors also have extremely low maintenance costs. Annual resealing is possible using environmentally friendly water-based products. Routine maintenance includes dry and damp mopping, with an occasional spray buffing.
