Limestone Sandstone Slate Basalt

LIMESTONE
is known for its natural, earthen appearance and is a sedimentary rock mainly composed of calcite and aragonite minerals, different crystal forms of calcium carbonate. Limestone makes an excellent building stone because it can be carved easily. It is typically used for flooring, wall cladding or ornate stonework.

SANDSTONE
commonly consists of sand-sized grains of quartz, feldspar, and other minerals. It may also include organic matter or rock fragments. The minerals that cement the grains include quartz or calcite. The color of sandstone ranges from cream, grey, red, brown to green, depending on the cements and impurities in the sand. Sandstones generally have a uniform texture and most are suitable for wall cladding and flooring because of the low absorption and strength of the material.

SLATE
is one of the world’s oldest natural products.  It consists mainly of grains of mica and quartz, plus small amounts of chlorite, hematite, and other minerals. Most slate is grey to black in color, but the rock may be red or purple, depending on its mineral content.  The building industry uses slate for roofing and flagstone because the rock is weatherproof and long lasting. Most slates are suitable for interior and exterior applications.

BASALT
is a volcanic rock composed of feldspar and ferromagnesian minerals.  Fine-grained and dark-coloured, basalt is a very strong stone and is suitable for flooring, wall cladding, countertops and also fireplace surrounds.  The stone is suitable for either exterior or interior applications.
